Life Lately

I could say that life has been busy lately.  I’m going to skip that expression and pick stressful.  Although it has negative connotations that “busy” doesn’t, you might as well call it what it is.  Now, this is the part where I get a little frustrated with myself.  I’ve not been stressed about where my next meal is coming from, how I’ll get to and from work, or even the health of myself or my family members.  No, I’ve been stressed about tiny, little issues.  I’ve been stressed about big decisions about career and house.  However, there is not a life or death situation going on.  We are so very blessed to be able to pay our bills and even have left-overs for fun things.  We work on the very same schedule and get to spend most evenings at home with H.  We are all healthy as can be, and I even ran my best 5K time on a treadmill (21:39!!!) this past Sunday.  Things are good.  The question is why do I feel stressed.  Why do I feel like things are just terrible sometimes?

Personally, I’m all in favor of throwing the negative forces of the world under the bus and shifting blame.  🙂  Truth be told, it’s my own mind and heart that works against me.  I can control my thoughts and attitudes through the One who strengthens me.  I know that I tend to get a little cranky/envious/hyper/stressed – – -all of these things this time of year.  To combat this, I started up my thankful garland which was so easy!  Just tied up some twine and then printed out a small leaf template online.  Then, I traced a few leaves and wrote something or someone I was thankful for on a leaf.  I attached the leaf to the twine using some mini clothespins from the local craft store.  Presto!  Thanksgiving DIY that is meaningful.

I find that I need anything and everything to keep me put together.  Fall and winter brings so much fun and joy, but it certainly can also bring feelings of stress, comparisons to others, and just plain old ungrateful thoughts.  Here are a few other things I’ve been doing to boost those flagging attitudes…

How do you stop the holiday/fall crazy feelings?

  1. Since you asked…I keep the crazy holiday feelings at bay with either Gossling’s Black Rum or Crown Royal. I strongly recommend using ginger ale to go with either.
