Thoughts on Taste and the Best Chocolate Chip Recipe

As you may or may not know, I experimented for about a week (give or take a day or two) with recording all my eats.  I was definitely more selective about my eats and more careful about my food choices and calorie intake.  Well, I’m sad to report that it made me feel terrible.  Last week was quite a doozy.  I got a terrible cold, picked up a grumpy mood, and was overall miserable with myself.  Now, this week also happened to be a certain time of the month which would easily take the blame for this doozy of a week.  However, I’m not too sure that my focus on EXACTLY what in my mouth didn’t really do the most harm.  Not to mention the fact that my digestive system completely.stopped.  Yikes!  Talk about miserable!  I decided to turn over a new leaf on Friday which included beer and a nice sweet treat of the small variety after dinner (and maybe a wee one after lunch depending on the options).  Presto!  Beer and sweets and I’m instantly lifted up!  

Sorry if you were looking for some big spiritual confession of how an under 1500 calorie intake lifted me up and gave me tons of energy.  This was not the case!  The point of this ramble about revolting against calorie counting is that it will literally make you lose your mind.  A few simple rules are much more appropriate like not having bread/bread-like stuff at every meal or making your morning and afternoon snack fruit only, like real fruit (a banana, an apple, an orange, you get the idea).  Not too mention, just drink some water silly.  Also, a good rule of thumb is to pack your own lunch with foods that are as close to the natural state as possible.  I had the best salad today that had only spring mix, 1 hard boiled egg, 1 hard boiled egg white, carrots, spoonful of hummus, plus some roasted veggies.  Pair that with 2 rice cakes plus some candy 🙂 and that’s my lunch.  Healthy but enough indulgence to make me feel human.  

Needless to say, I’m happy to not be on the calorie counting band wagon.  I do realize that it can be helpful for some folks to see the actual amount they are consuming.  It is definitely not for me!  Here are some food pics that chronicle my more-balanced weekend!  Cheers to a balanced week ahead!

Top picture displays the massive amount of butter that went in the Mr.’s bday cookies.  Recipe courtesy of Betty Crocker.  Get it here.  The Mr. thoroughly approved of them, and he is a cookie connoisseur.  No pictures of cookies since they were quickly devoured.  Only the sad bowl in the sink when I went to grab a “snack/treat.”  Also pictured is my almond butter standoff.  Maranatha won hands down.  No contest.  I enjoyed my taste test with a goblet of iced green tea.  Love the big wine glass!  Just makes it more festive.  Red Knot wine, Corona, and a green smoothie rounded out my liquid fun this weekend.  It’s just something about each one of those items that makes you feel good.  For different reasons obviously.  

What’s your favorite healthy or fun drink?  

Almond butter or peanut butter?  I’ve heard about S butter (sunflower seed butter perhaps???).

We’ve made it through Monday.  Hip Hip Hooray!
