Preparing for Valentine’s Day

It is so hard to believe that we are now in February and that Valentine’s Day is just a few a week and a half away.  Valentine’s Day is one of my favorite holidays {probably behind Christmas and Thanksgiving but ahead of Halloween – shocking, I know.}.  A day focusing on telling those people you love how you feel about them is a day well spent.  🙂  Here is a some more info on the history of Valentine’s Day in case you were wondering.

This is the connection to today that I like – In the modern era, liturgically, the Anglican Church has a service for St. Valentine’s Day (the Feast of St. Valentine), which includes the optional rite of the renewal of marriage vows.[72]  {taken from Wikipedia}.

In a way, you are renewing your vows {marriage or not} to love those special people in your life.  You may be renewing your vows to yourself to show you kids affection and love, show your coworkers kindness, show your own parents love and respect, etc.  My mom has always made sure to have a little treat for my brother, sister, and I growing up that included a heartfelt card.  Now, I get treats and a card to share with the Mr. from my mom.  Although it may seem like a holiday for boyfriend/girlfriend or husband/wife, it can be so much more.  It is only one day a year, so why not take the time to pause and celebrate love and all the special people in  your life who you get to love on.

Here are a few ideas to get you thinking…

Cute garland to decorate with from Etsy.  Click here to buy!  I’m thinking that you could attempt to DIY this pretty easily too.

Let lots of Post-It notes tell your loved one who you feel!  Love the heart design!  Read about this DIY-er’s unique Valentine’s Day “card” here.

A sweet, breakfast treat!  This blogger’s idea uses canned cinnamon buns but takes just an extra minute or two to rearrange them so cleverly into little hearts.  I know my guys would love these!

Another cute thing to do is just add some hearts to food you are already planning.  The pie pictured below is a dessert I was already cooking up around Valentine’s Day last year, and I just used a knife to add the heart design.  Festive and simple.

See my favorite pie recipe here.

Fresh flowers are always appreciated {even men can appreciate something colorful in these cold, bleak months!}

These beauties were from last winter.  Quite a steal from Trader Joe’s if I remember correctly.

Give the gift of reading – I love, love, love a new magazine or even a new book {self-help are my addiction}.  I read the book below a year or two ago.  Although I wouldn’t give it great reviews, my favorite thing about any self-help book is that there is ALWAYS some good advice or “take away” from it.  Something you can apply to your life.  Perhaps, you just get a reminder or refresher that you need.

H is a pretty big fan of books, and I can’t wait to go pick out his Valentine’s Day book this year.

I hope I gave you a few ideas/inspiration for the most exciting holiday in sight for weeks!  🙂  Now is the time to plan something special for those you love or perhaps even something special to do for you!  Treating yourself to flowers, a book, or sweet treat is a good ideas too!  I’ll be sharing our decor and treats this year in the upcoming week.

Have a great Wednesday!
